With Primitive Portraits in Mind

I am intrigued by naive/ primitive portraits and their (often) pensive expressions against dark backgrounds. With that in mind, I painted my piece on a 8 by 10 inch panel today, with folk art being my starting point.  : )

Hi Nicola

I envy people who can do portraiture so well, primitive or otherwise. My own efforts at painting portraits are quite primitive in that they look like a three year old did them. very well done a marvellous piece.

Beautiful!!! Love the whole thing! You pegged the pensive expression perfectly (say it 10x's fast). Primitive done on purpose is not primitive?
